Davi Mourao's win in the 100 Breast helped the Panthers to a national Runner-Up finish

Drury men's swimming & diving are NCAA-II Runner-Up; women's team finishes 3rd at NCAA-II National Championships

GENEVA, Ohio— The Drury men's swimming & diving team finished as the NCAA-II Runner-Up and the Drury women's squad came in third at the NCAA-II National Championships at the SPIRE Institute Aquatic Center in Geneva, Ohio, on Saturday.
 
The five-day event concluded Saturday with Tampa winning the men's national championship with 473 points. The Panthers were second with 409 points, and Indianapolis, the defending champs and this year's GLVC champion, was third with 359.
 
Nova Southeastern won the women's title with 487 points and finished just above Colorado Mesa's total of 461.5 points. Drury was third with 400.5 points and finished in front of fourth-place Indianapolis with 323.5.
 
Men's Highlights
  • Drury swimmers came in second and third in a hotly contested 200 Breaststroke, with the top three finishers touching the wall within 0.09 seconds of one another. Joao Nogueira was the national runner-up, and missed first place by just 0.06 with his time of 1:54.72. Davi Mourao won third (1:54.75). Oklahoma Christian's John Amrein won the event with a time of 1:54.66
  • Yuri Cabral was Drury's top finisher in the 100 Free as he finished 15th with a time of 44.04
  • The Panthers had two placers, both freshmen, in the 200 Back. Ivan Adamchuk was fourth (1:42.97) and Alvar Zornoza was 13th (1:45.49)
  • Drury's 400 Free Relay team tied Nova Southeastern for ninth. DU's squad of Viktor Khnykin, Yuri Cabral, Lucas Minuer, and Alejandro Villarejo had a time of 2:55.35
 
Women's Highlights
  • Lexi Waller was the national runner-up in the 200 Back as she posted a time of 1:56.61. Colorado Mesa's Agata Naskret won the event with a time of 1:55.30, more than two seconds faster than her preliminary time earlier in the day
  • Ashyln Moore finished fifth in the 100 Free, finishing with a time of 49.81, while Josie Bushell was 13th (50.68)
  • Drury finished second, third and eighth in the 200 Breast. Claire Conover won silver (2:11.79), and Mellie Wijk earned bronze (2:14.06), while Luisa Machado was eighth (2:16.43)
  • The Panthers ended the season with a second place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Drury's team of Moore, Bushell, Ellie Walker, and Wijk posted a time of 3:20.55, while Colorado Mesa won the event in 3:20.00
 
The Drury men's team was the NCAA-II Runner-Up for the fourth straight season, while the DU women's squad finished third for the second year in a row.
