Panthers open the track & field season in Missouri State's Springfield Showdown

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury opened their outdoor track & field on Friday in the Springfield Showdown hosted by Missouri State. Women's sprinter Ashley Childers won an event and set two program records, while two men's runners won events at the inaugural meet that featured the three Springfield collegiate programs, Missouri State, Drury and Evangel.
 
Women's Highlights
 
  • Ashley Childers won the 200 meter dash and set a program record. The senior from Ozark, Missouri, ran for a winning time of 24.03 and broke her previous school mark of 24.42
  • Childers was also second and broke a school record in the 100 meter dash. Her time of 11.86 was just 0.02 off the winning time and broke her previous record of 11.92
  • Jolie McClellen was second in the javelin as she posted a throw of 42.03 meters
  • Zoe Van Dijk was fifth in the 1500 meter run and her time of 4:50.24 was the seventh-fastest time in program history
 
Men's Highlghts
  • Colby Garner won the 1500 and the Panthers finished one through four. Garner won and had a personal best time of 3:57.11. Tyler Harris was second (3:58.23), Kyle Keltner was third (3:58.56), and Nolan Moeller was fourth (4:01.28)
  • Will Kershaw finished first in the 3000 meter run and his time of 8:49.15 was the third-fastest time in program history. Cole Sutton was second in the same event, finishing with a time of 8:54.62, the fourth-best mark in team history
  • Mason St. Clair was second in the long jump and his leap of 6.71 meters ranks second all-time in program history
 
 
Drury competes again on March 28 and 29 in the SBU Track Meet, hosted by Southwest Baptist in Bolivar.
