Panthers fall 3-2 in GLVC Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mo – Drury Volleyball opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play with a 3-2 loss to Indianapolis.
 
The first set was back and forth for a majority of the set before the Panthers went on a 10-1 run that put Drury up 20-12. They closed the set at 25-20. The second set was very similar with both teams battling it out, but Drury once again was able to go on a strong run, 7-1, and give them a 22-14 advantage. The second set was won by Drury, 25-23. The tides turned in set three. The Greyhounds came out of the break strong and got off to a 20-10 lead. Drury was able to rally a bit, but it was too little too late. Indianapolis won 25-17. The fourth set was played very similar to the first two with both teams going back and forth, Indy was able to pull away at the end and win 25-20. The decisive set started with a 5-0 lead for Drury before Indy called a timeout and led to them going on their own 5-0 run. Once both teams settled in, it was another fight, Indy was able to get two late points and propel them to the 15-13 win and secure their first GLVC win of the season.
 
Kayli Duncan led the Panthers with 13 kills, two solo blocks, and four block assists. Out of the 50 assists that Drury had in the five sets, Lauren Tyler accounted for 44 of them and 16 digs. Kim Quinite had 26 digs and three service aces. Other notable performances were Kyla Clubb with 11 kills and Gracie Kimrey with 11 kills, four block assists, and four digs.
 
The Panthers will return to the court tomorrow to face off against the regaining GLVC champions, Lewis at 3 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
