Panthers Secure First Road Win Against Truman State, 2-0

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Drury men's soccer earned its first road win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Truman State in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup Sunday, Oct. 19.  
 
The Panthers generated several chances in the first half against the Bulldogs. Samuel Tagg opened the match with a shot in the seventh minute, forcing a save from the Truman State goalkeeper. The Bulldogs responded with shots in the eighth, 13th, and 15th minutes, but all were stopped by the Panther defense. 
 
Drury didn't record another shot until the 27th minute, when Dane Prost had his attempt stopped by the Bulldogs' goalkeeper. The Panthers continued to apply pressure with shots from Joe Loughnane, Cayden Meyer, and J.J. Adikwu, but could not find the back of the net before going into halftime. 
 
Drury carried its momentum into the second half. Joe Loughnane began the half with a shot that the Truman State goalkeeper saved. The Panthers fired off shots throughout the second half, but didn't score until the 76th minute. Lui Bull stepped up on a free kick and buried the ball into the net to find the first goal of the game. 
 
Rian Mulherin sealed the win in the 81st minute, chipping the goalkeeper after a scramble in the Bulldog box. Samuel Tagg and Gage Vehr fired off late shots, but couldn't find the third. The Panthers held on for a 2-0 win, securing their first road victory of the season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samuel Tagg opened the game with a shot on target in the seventh minute. 
  • Truman State responded with three shots in the eighth, 13th, and 15th minutes. 
  • Drury forced two saves from the Bulldogs' goalkeeper with shots from Dane Prost and Cayden Meyer in the 27thand 28th minutes. 
  • Joe Loughnane and J.J. Adikwu continued to test the Truman State goalkeeper, but couldn't find a goal before halftime.  
  • The Panthers had seven shots with six on target in the first half. 
  • Joe Loughnane began the second half with another shot on target in the 49th minute. 
  • Drury continued to fire off shots throughout the second half, with chances from Samuel Tagg, Rian Mulherin, and Gage Vehr
  • Lui Bull's shot off a free kick resulted in the Panthers' first goal in the 76th minute. 
  • Guilherme Maia forced a save from Truman State's goalkeeper in the 77th minute.
  • Rian Mulherin secured the win in the 81st minute with a chip over the goalkeeper. 
  • Samuel Tagg and Gage Vehr recorded late shots, but couldn't find the third.
  • The full-time whistle blew for Drury's 2-0 road win.
