Drury Strikes Twice to Steal a 2-1 Win Over William Jewell

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's soccer pulled off a late comeback to steal a 2-1 win against William Jewell in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup on Friday, Oct. 24.

The first half was slow for both teams. Joe Loughnane forced a save from the Cardinals' goalkeeper in the second minute. William Jewell responded with a shot of their own in the fourth minute, which goalkeeper Camden Meyer stopped. Mattheo Ledoux continued to press with a shot on goal in the seventh minute, forcing another save from William Jewell's goalkeeper. Both teams fought for opportunities, but it wasn't until the 41st minute that either side produced another shot on target. Guilherme Maia tested the keeper, but his effort was stopped. The teams went into halftime scoreless.

Drury came out in the second half looking for a breakthrough. Lui Bull and Cayden Meyer had early chances, but couldn't find the target. Camden Meyer was called to make another save in the 61st and 75th minutes, making two key saves. Moments later, Carson Morgan responded with a header off a free kick that was stopped by the Cardinals' keeper. JJ Adikwu and Rian Mulherin had back-to-back chances from a corner in the 78th minute that were blocked on the line.

The final 10 minutes provided all the action. William Jewell broke through in the 84th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Drury responded quickly when Lui Bull and JJ Adikwu set up senior Cayden Meyer, who scored the equalizer in the 87thminute. A minute later, Drury freshman Samuel Tagg fired a shot into the top right corner to complete the comeback and give the Panthers a 2-1 win.
