SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's soccer secured a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament with a 2-1 win over Southwest Baptist on Friday in Bolivar, Mo.
It was an eventful first half in Bolivar.
Cayden Meyer opened the game with a shot on target in the second minute. Meyer kept firing and found the back of the net in the seventh minute, giving Drury a 1-0 lead. Southwest Baptist responded with shots in the ninth and 12
th minutes. A foul in the Panther box gave the Bearcats a penalty in the 14
th minute, which they scored to tie the game. Drury couldn't find a response until the 45
th minute when
Rian Mulherin forced another save from the Bearcats' goalkeeper. The teams went into halftime even at 1-1.
The Panthers entered the second half needing a goal.
Carson Morgan opened the half with a shot in the 58
th minute. A scramble after a Drury corner led to
Gage Vehr scoring a volley to put the Panthers up 2-1 in the 61
st minute. Drury continued to battle through a physical, chippy half, with shots from Mulherin in the 62
nd minute and Morgan in the 78
thminute. Panthers saw out the 2-1 win and clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament.
