Panthers Close Regular Season with a 3-1 Win Over Oklahoma Christian

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's soccer won its fifth straight game, defeating Oklahoma Christian 3-1 in the final match of the regular season. 
 
The Panthers dominated the first half with a flurry of goals. Mason Platts opened the scoring in the 18th minute, giving Drury a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Tyrell Phinn smacked the ball in the net to go up 2-0. The Panthers pounced once again in the 30th minute, with Dane Prost scoring off a ball from Mason Platts. Drury went into the halftime break up 3-0. 
 
The second half was slower for the Panthers. Ben Barnett was called to make a save in the 59th minute. Drury responded with a shot from Steen Voller in the 61st minute that couldn't find the target. The Eagles kept pressing for a goal and found the back of the net in the 78th to cut the lead to 3-1. The Panthers responded with shots from Liam Olson and Marco Donjuan in the 80th and 81st. Drury defended through the final minutes to seal the 3-1 victory. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Joe Loughnane opened the half with a shot on target in the second minute.
  • Steen Voller and Carlos Chicas kept pressing for an early goal with shots in the third and sixth minutes.
  • Mason Platts scored the opening goal off a Joe Loughnane assist in the 18th minute.
  • Tyrell Phinn scored the second off a pass from Reed Corrigan in the 22nd minute.
  • Dane Prost added another goal to make it 3-0 in the 31st minute.
  • Oklahoma Christian with shots in the 31st and 32nd minutes.
  • Drury went into halftime up three goals.
  • The Panthers outshot the Eagles 9-3 in the first half.
  • Oklahoma Christian opened the second half with a shot on target, which was saved by Ben Barnett.

Drury enters the postseason in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament for a quarterfinal matchup against McKendree on Sunday, Nov.9. Kickoff in Lebanon, Ill., is set for 3:30 p.m.
