SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The NCAA-II men's and women's swimming & diving national championships got underway on Tuesday with a single event, and the Panthers finished second in the 800 Free Relay in both the men's and women's races.
 
The Drury women's 800 Free Relay team finished second with a time of 7:14.64. Nova Southeastern, the defending national champion in the event, won the national title again, finishing with a time of 7:11.57. Mellie Wijk, Claire Conover, Belen Morales, and Ellie Walker combined to be the national runner-up. The Panthers finished 0.22 seconds in front of third-place Colorado Mesa.
 
The Drury men's 800 Free Relay team was also second and Tampa set an NCAA-II record and won with a time of 6:17.93. The Panthers completed the event in 6:19.67 as Lucas Mineur, Alvaro Zornoza, Joao Nogueira and Matteo Vissotto combined for the second-place finish. McKendree came in third (6:20.34).
 
Nova Southeastern leads the women's championships with 40 points, while the Panthers are in second with 34, and Colorado Mesa has 32 points.
 
Tampa leads the men's competition with 40 points. Drury is in second with 34 and McKendree is in third with 32 points.
 
Day two of the national championships starts with preliminary heats in the 1,000 Free at 9 am (Central).
