INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Drury sophomore Jeremiah Halter has his season come to an end in the preliminary round of the NCAA-II National Championships at Corteva Colesium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday.
Halter, a native of Liberty, Missouri, who advanced to the national meet with a third place finish at the NCAA-II Super Region IV in the 174-pound weight class, lost to Clinton Morrisette from King (Tenn.) in the first round by Major Decision 14-4.

Dalton Gimbor from Kutztown then stayed alive on the bracket with a win by Technical Fall over Halter, 17-2 in 6:09.

It marked the first appearance at the national championship for Halter and head coach
James Reynolds said the experience will be valuable to Halter and his team moving forward.

"
Jeremiah Halter getting here and being a sophomore is going to propel him forward," said Reynolds. "I had some words for him at the edge of the mat to tell him to absorb the experience – the good and the bad and let it fuel him moving forward.

"The expectation is up now, and he's certainly going to drag a few teammates and inspire others to get here. It's a beautiful thing that he's only a sophomore because he knows now what it takes to get here and what it takes to win matches at this level."

Halter's appearance at the national championship marks the 10
th time Drury has advanced a wrestler to the championship. They missed the national stage in 2024, but the Panthers sent three in 2023 and were represented at the championship for five straight years from 2019 to 2023.

Drury completed its ninth season of wrestling at the intercollegiate level in 2024-25, with each season guided by head coach
James Reynolds.
