SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's soccer suffered a 4-2 defeat against Lincoln on Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup.
The Panthers started slow in the first half.
Cayden Meyer opened the game with the first shot in the second minute. However, momentum was with the Blue Tigers as they recorded shots in the 5
th and 11
th minutes before scoring in the 12
th minute. Drury fought for opportunities after finding themselves a goal down, with
Joe Loughnane and
Cayden Meyer pushing for an equalizer. In the final minutes of the first half, a Lincoln player was taken down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Kevon Maitland stepped up to score the penalty, and the Panthers found themselves 2-0 down heading into halftime.
Drury found hope in the second half. A corner kick in the 49
th minute resulted in
Dane Prost being fouled in the box, and
Joe Loughnane converted the penalty to cut the deficit to 2-1. Lincoln responded with chances of its own, but it was
Carson Morgan who found the next goal with a header from a Loughnane free kick in the 60
th minute to tie the game 2-2. The Blue Tigers regained the lead in the 69
th minute to take back the lead at 3-2. Drury continued to fight back, but suffered another penalty in the 88
th minute as Lincoln made it 4-2 to finish the game.
