SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Carly Swan's 82nd-minute goal forced a 1-1 draw against Quincy at Lake Country on Saturday afternoon.
Drury's offense started the match with all the momentum, forcing Libby Kamp into action early. In the opening half, the Panthers outshot the Hawks 10-3. Four of Drury's shots were on goal, while another attempt from
Leah McDonald struck the crossbar in the 34th minute.
The Panthers' best opportunity to score in the opening half came during a 45-second span in the 41st minute.
Caroline Dinnon put back-to-back shots on goal, both turned away by Kamp. A third shot in the sequence, a rebound attempt from
Melissa Higgins, was also on frame, but Kamp made her third save of the minute to keep the match scoreless.
Quincy earned a free kick in the 44th minute from 25 yards out. Jessie Newton delivered the service to Marina Oberschmid, who headed the ball just inside the far post to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Drury offensive pressure slowed in the second half, as the Panthers managed just two shots in the opening 30 minutes, none of them on goal. With time winding down, Drury earned a free kick from approximately 35 yards out.
Leah McDonald sent the ball to the near post, where
Carly Swan headed it home for the equalizer in the 82nd minute. The Panthers had one more opportunity in the 87th minute when
Melissa Higgins put a shot on target, but it was stopped before crossing the goal line, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
