ST. LOUIS – Drury women's golf finished the regular season with a tied-for-11th-place finish in the UMSL Spring Invitational on April 13.
The invitational took place at the Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis. The par-71 course was 5,800 in length. The event consisted of 54 holes, featuring 16 teams. Fifteen of the 16 teams represent the East region; the lone team not in the East is North Georgia.
17th-ranked Grand Valley State won the event, shooting 23 over as a team. No. 33 UMSL (+30) finished second ahead of No. 37 Ferris State (+41). No. 11 North Georgia (+44) and No. 19 Indianapolis (+53) each also finished in the top five. Drury finished tied with Illinois Springfield in 11th place. Both teams shot +122.
Jade Carter led Drury, finishing tied for 44, shooting 27-over.
Avery Basler was the second-highest Drury finisher. Basler was tied for 52nd with a +31. The winner of the event was Grand Valley State's Heida Rakel Rafnsottir. She was the only player to shoot under par with a one-under. Ferris State's Kamryn Shannon was even in the tournament to finish second.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Grace Stafford shot Drury's only eagle in the round with a two on a par four on hole one of the course in the second round.
- Drury was tied for tenth in the field with 18 birdies over the three rounds.
- Jade Carter recorded 31 pars in the 54 holes, tied for the seventh most in the field.
- Carter shot 80s in every round over the tournament.
- Avery Basler's best round came in the final round, where she shot a 79.
- Chloe Wills had the best Drury round of the tournament. She shot a 77 in the final round of the tournament.
