SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Central Missouri's 85th-minute goal lifted the Jennies over Drury on Sunday evening (Aug. 30) at Lake Country Soccer Complex in Springfield.
UCM controlled the tempo in the first half, posting five shots and three corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes. Their best chance came in the 43rd minute when Makenzie Smith put a shot on goal, but Drury goalkeeper
Katy Fitzler kept it out to send the match into halftime scoreless.
In the second half, the Panthers shifted momentum, generating five shots in the first 20 minutes.
Campbell Morgan recorded two attempts, including one on target.
In the 85th minute, during a counterattack, the Jennies made a run down the sideline, where Alexandra Hofbauer connected with Mikayla Ernst on a cross into the box. Ernst finished the chance to give UCM the late advantage.
Drury was unable to create another opportunity in the final five minutes, and Ernst's goal stood as the difference in a 1-0 Jennies win.
MATCH NOTES
- Central Missouri outshot Drury 11-5. Only two of the 11 shots from UCM were on net. The Panthers had one on goal.
- The Jennies had five corner kicks to Drury's one.
- Campbell Morgan led Drury with two shots. Leah McDonald, Melissa Higgins, and Carly Swan each had one shot.
- Mikayla Ernst's goal was her first of the year.
- Carly Swan made her first career start.
- With the loss, Drury is now 3-2-0 against Central Missouri all-time and has lost the last two meetings.
- With the loss, it is the first time in the Olson era that Drury does not have a win through their first two games. The most recent time was the 2019 season; Drury did not win a match until match six.
