TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Drury men's soccer earned its first road win of the season, claiming a 1-0 victory over Northeastern State Wednesday evening.
The Panthers created multiple chances early on, with
Caua Nascimento recording the first two shots. In the 11th minute, Nascimento struck the ball on the edge of the box, forcing a top-corner save from Northeastern State goalkeeper Cameron McColloch. The RiverHawks didn't record their first shot until the 23rd minute, sending an attempt over the crossbar.
The remainder of the first half was quiet, as neither team could find chances on goal. Northeastern State had the final shot of the half in the 40th minute, forcing
Ben Barnett to make a huge save off his foot. The two teams went into halftime scoreless.
Northeastern State came out of the break seeking the opening goal and recorded the first two shots of the half in the 49th and 52nd minutes.
Steen Voller continued his attacking form with two shots on goal, forcing saves in the 53rd and 57th minutes. The Panthers kept the pressure on as
David Huang's low shot on goal was saved, and the rebound fell to
Lui Bull, who narrowly missed wide in the 61st minute.
As the second half went on, the Panthers earned two free-kick opportunities. Voller missed wide right in the 74th minute, and Nascimento forced another save from McColloch in the 79th minute. The RiverHawks responded with chances in the 85th and 87th minutes, with Barnett making another save to keep the match scoreless.
Drury finally broke through in the 88th minute. A corner kick fell to
Tyrell Phinn, who found
Sam Tagg. Tagg played Voller a ball on the edge of the box, and Voller slotted his shot into the bottom-left corner to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Drury saw out a chippy finish and secured a 1-0 victory over Northeastern State.
