ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 11 Drury men's soccer picked up its seventh win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Lewis in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play Saturday afternoon.
Drury set the tone 56 seconds into the match, as
Lui Bull flicked the ball to
Steen Voller, who found the back of the net to put the Panthers up 1-0. Nine minutes later,
David Huang received the ball from
Eyal Kibrik and fired a shot from outside the box to double Drury's lead. Huang nearly added a second goal in the 15th minute, but his shot was saved by Lewis goalkeeper Matija Blazic.
Lewis registered its first shot of the match in the 16th minute when Alejandro Trejos missed the target.
Ben Barnett made his first save of the match in the 29th minute on a shot from Hampus Ryno. Neither side found another goal in the opening half, sending the Panthers into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers opened the second half with another chance, as
Caua Nascimento fired a shot in the 53rd minute. Joseph Munyaneza responded for the Flyers in the 61st minute, but his shot missed the target. Barnett was called into action again in the 77th minute, making his second save of the match to preserve the two-goal advantage. Drury shut down Lewis the rest of the way to secure all three points with a 2-0 road win.
