Drury smacked four home runs in the first three runs and went on to defeat Central Missouri 9-3 in the opener en route to a split of its non-conference doubleheader with the Mules Tuesday night at Meador Park.
In the nightcap, the UCM bats came alive as the Mules posted a 13-1 victory, the second of two seven-inning contests between the Panthers (14-14-1) and Central Missouri (20-15).
In the opener,
Conner Wilson got things started with a two-run homer in the first,
Marcus Enloe added a solo shot in the second and
Luke Tewes hit a two-run blast followed by another solo homer from
Tyler Arthur in the third to stake the Panthers to a 6-2 lead.
Spencer Wilmes (1-0) earned his first collegiate pitching victory, allowing five hits and two runs over 3 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking four.
Ryan Wedermyer pitched 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief, and
Nick Costantino and
Levi Skinner finished it up for the Panthers.
Drury outhit the Mules 14-9 in the opener, with Tewes finishing 3-for-4 and Enloe, Arthur,
Dallas Williams and
Bobby Lang adding two hits each.Â
Trevor Jones, Jackson Schnurbusch and Colton Hillbrenner had two hits apiece for the Mules.
The nightcap was all UCM, as the Mules scored three in the first, one in the second, four in the fourth and five in the fifth to grab a 13-0 lead before the Panthers could get on the board.
Central Missouri finished with 14 hits to just six by DU, as Dusty Maas drove in five runs and scored three times to go with three hits and Derek Cornell went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the Mules.
Mike Rafter drove in Drury's lone run with a fifth-inning single, as six UCM pitchers combined to strike out nine and walk one while surrendering those six DU hits.
