AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's erupted for five runs in the second inning and went on to claim a 9-2 victory over Drury in the season opener for the Panthers' here on Friday afternoon.
St. Edward's, which moved to 7-3 on the season with its fifth straight victory, took advantage of two DU errors to touch Panthers' starter 
Sterling Sharp (0-1) for five runs in the second, the big blow a two-run double by Gable Whitacre.
The Hilltoppers pushed the lead to 7-0 with two runs in the third on solo homers by J.D. Arrowood and Wesley Harris. 
Drury got on the boards with solo runs in the fourth when 
Ryan Colombo tripled and scored on a wild pitch, and in the sixth when Colombo walked and came around to score on a double by 
Conner Wilson. 
Collin Sherrod struck out 10 over seven innings of work, allowing five hits and overcoming four wild pitches to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Arrowhead had two homers as part of a four-hit day as St. Edward's out-hit the Panthers 12-5.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and then finish the series with a single game on Sunday, both with noon starts.
