ROLLA – Missouri S&T swept the Drury baseball Panthers in their GLVC openers taking the opener 9-3 and the nightcap 2-1-here on Friday.
Drury is now 8-15 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC and Missouri S&T is 15-6 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC.
In the opener the Miners struck first on a pair of back to back RBI singles in the second inning and later added two runs in the fourth on a pair of RBI doubles for a 4-0 lead.
A pair of S&T errors, one in the fifth that allowed Conner Pomering to score and one in the sixth that
Christian Magno scored on cut the Missouri S&T lead to 4-2 after six innings.
The Miner offensive continued to score runs in the sixth with three runs coming on four hits and a Panther error for a 7-2 lead. Drury added a run on an RBI single by Pomering to score
Devan O'Bryan in the top of the eighth. The Miners added eighth inning runs on an RBI single and a wild pitch for the 9-3 final.
Drury finished with six hits and the Miners had 12 led by Collin Zurweller who had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Both teams struggled in the field committing four errors.
Sterling Sharpe (1-4) received the loss and Dan Borek (4-2) earned the win for S&T.
In the nightcap Drury scored first in the third inning on an RBI groundout by
Conner Wilson to plate
Ryan Colombo. S&T tied it up by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI single by Lance Portwood of Missouri S&T in the bottom of the sixth would give the Miners a 2-1 victory.
Missouri S&T finished with five hits with Portwood having two of those and Drury had eight hits.
Keitn Coulson (4-1) earned the win for the Panthers.
Ryan Wedermyer got the loss for Drury (1-1).
The Drury baseball Panthers will continue their GLVC road series at Missouri S&T Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
