ST. LOUIS – Maryville earned a GLVC sweep over the Drury baseball Panthers winning the opener 8-7 in extra innings and taking the nightcap 12-9 here on Friday.
Drury is now 14-30 overall and 5-17 in the GLVC and Maryville is 20-22 overall and 11-11 in the GLVC.
In the opener Drury led 2-1 after two innings on a first inning RBI groundout by
Conner Wilson and a
Christian Magno homer to lead off the second.
A pair of RBI singles in the fourth by
Devan O'Bryan and Wadkins made it a 4-1 lead for DU after the top of the fourth before Maryville scored five runs on three hits and an error in the bottom half of the fourth to go up 6-4.
Both teams added runs in the eighth the Panthers on Magno's second homer of the contest and Maryville on a balk to make it 7-5 Maryville.
In the top of the ninth the Panthers would tie it up as Wilson doubled to pull the Panthers to within a run and
Ryan Kayhill singled to score
Patrick Hoerning and tie it up 7-7.
An RBI single by Zack Ruckman in the bottom of the eleventh gave Maryville an 8-7 win.
Drury outhit Maryville by a 16-11 tally led by Magno who had four hits, three runs and two RBIs and
Ryan Wadkins who had three hits, two runs and an RBI.
Josh Bonds (2-3) got the win for Maryville with
Aaron Alexander (0-1) receiving the loss.
Drury outhit Maryville 14-13 with
Justin Abernathy having three hits, three runs and an RBI. Wadkins added two hits, three RBIs and scored a run. Niemerg had three hits, scored three runs and had an RBI for Maryville.
Drury scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings for a 4-0 lead before the Saints scored eight runs on eight hits for an 8-4 lead. A Conner Pomering RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Wadkins in the Panther fourth cut the lead to 8-6. Magno cut the lead to 8-7 with an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth, but Maryville tacked on four runs on three hits and an error in the bottom half of the fifth to push their lead back to 12-7. Drury added runs on the seventh on an RBI double by Wadkins and an RBI sacrifice by
Ryan Colombo but could draw no closer.
Tyler Omlid (4-3) earned the win for Maryville and
Alex Austin (0-3) received the loss.
Drury will look to continue action tomorrow at noon weather permitting at Parkway South High School vs. Maryville.
