TOPEKA, Kan. – Drury ended their trip to the Washburn Invitational tournament with a 2-2 record after splitting their two games on Saturday in Topeka, Kansas. The Panthers won their first game Saturday with a 3-0 win over Pittsburg State then fell 3-0 to 16th ranked Washburn.
Drury edged the Gorillas (0-3) in the first set winning 25-23, then took command with a 25-16 win in the second set. Brooke Antenen led the Panthers with 11 kills and the senior from Naperville, Illinois added 27 assists. McKenna Poynter chipped in with 21 digs in the win.
Washburn improved to 4-0 sweeping Drury in the final game of the tournament. The Panthers managed to push the second set beyond 25 points but fell 28-26. Antenen had 12 kills in the loss while freshman and Ozark product Kendra Sater added 13 assists.
Drury returns to action next weekend in the Henderson State tournament in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The Panthers face Arkansas Tech and Lindenwood on Sept. 9 then take on West Alabama and Henderson State on Sept. 10.
