Drury's top dozen moments from 2017-18 - No. 7: Bazzoli wins the national title in the 100 breaststroke

During the next several weeks, we will continue to reveal our Drury Dozen – the top 12 moments from 2017-18 as voted on by members of the Drury University athletics media relations team that covered a variety of DU sports throughout the year.

The list on this countdown does not reflect the most significant moments from the year, although the biggest games/events certainly played a part in our decision. Ultimately, these were our favorite moments from the previous year and the ones that we will likely always associate with the 2017-18 sports season.

#7 – Andrea Bazzoli wins the national title in the 100 breaststroke
Drury men's swimmer Andrea Bazzoli won the national championship in the 100 breaststroke on the third day of the NCAA-II swimming & diving championship at Greensboro, North Carolina on March 16.

Earlier in the week, the Peschiera Del Garda, Italy native received an NCAA Elite 90 Award for having the top grade point average among student-athletes at the final national championship site. That award and his national title were the first in a slew of honors for Bazzoli. As he graduated from Drury in three seasons, Bazzoli earned the Dr. Edsel Matthews Award, the GLVC's highest honor with the Paragon Award, the GLVC Student-Athlete of the Year in men's swimming & diving, his second GLVC Brother Gaffney Award, his third GLVC Council of Presidents Award, his third GLVC All-Academic team honor, and his third CSCAA Scholar-Athlete Award.
