Bec Cross named GLVC Women's Swimmer of the Year; Karol Ostrowski named men's Freshman of the Year

ELKHART, Ind. – Drury's Bec Cross was named the GLVC Women's Swimmer of the Year, while Drury men's swimmer Karol Ostrowski was named Men's Freshman of the Year in the league following the conference championship meet on Saturday in Elkhart, Indiana.
 
Cross won three events, finished in second in three others, and had a third-place finish during the conference championships. The junior from Australia won the 200 Individual Medley, won and set a conference record in the 400 IM, and won the 500 Free. She posted runner-up finishes in the 400 Medley Relay, the 800 Free Relay, and in the 200 Breaststroke. She was part of a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay.
 
Cross' award marks the fifth straight year a Drury women's swimmer has taken the league's top award. Erica Dahlgren won the honor last year and in 2018, while Bailee Nunn was the GLVC Women's Swimmer of the Year in 2019 and 2017.
 
Karol Ostrowski was the GLVC Freshman of the Year in men's swimming. The native of Strachocin, Poland, helped the Panthers win the men's team championship in the conference with four first-place finishes, two second places, and a fifth-place finish. Ostrowski won the 200 Free with a GLVC meet record time and was part of championship relays in the 200 Free Relay, the 800 Free Relay, and the 400 Free Relay. He was the runner-up in the 50 Free and the 100 Free, and he came in fifth in the 100 Backstroke.
 
Drury won their fifth GLVC men's swimming & diving championship on Saturday, while the women's squad came in third.
 
Drury swimming & diving will host the Last Chance meet on Feb. 27 at the Breech Pool, then will compete at the NCAA-II Championships March 17-20 in Birmingham, Alabama.
