SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The seven-ranked Drury Panthers lost their 2021 season-opener in a 5-2 loss at home to Washburn at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield on Sunday.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. 
Nico Hadeler and 
Marlon Wilken, along with 
Isaac Ogilvy and 
Lukas Stierling, both went to tie-breakers but prevailed 7-6.
 
The Ichabods then won five of six singles matches to take the win. The lone win from the Panthers came from 
Sylvain Garin-Michaud, playing in Drury's number two position. The sophomore from France defeated Miquel Perez 6-4, 7-5. Drury's top singles player, 
Nico Hadeler, fell in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
 
The Panthers fell to 0-1 while Washburn went to 1-0.
 
Drury's original opener, Saturday against Washington (Mo.), was postponed to April 4. The Panthers will be on the court again Friday when they host Harding at 8 pm at the Cooper Sports Complex.
