SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— William Woods handed Drury a 5-2 loss at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield on Sunday.
The 18
th ranked Panthers dropped to 9-5. The Owls, ranked 22
nd in the NAIA, raised their record to 12-3.
Drury fell behind 1-0 after doubles as William Woods won two of the three doubles matches.
Nico Hadeler and
Marlon Wilken earned a 7-6 win, but the Owls won the number three match-up 6-2, then clinched the point with a 7-6 win over
Augustin Diot and
Sylvain Garin-Michaud.
The Panthers won the number one and two singles matches but lost positions three through six to drop the match. Hadeler earned a 6-3, 6-2, and Garin-Michaud won in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. All four of Drury's losses in spots three through six were closely contested, and Wilken was edged in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Drury ends the regular season next Saturday when they host Quincy at 11 am at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
