SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Panthers were toppled in the Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinals on Friday as Illinois Springfield defeated 17
th ranked Drury 4-1 in Romeoville, Illinois.
The Panthers, seeded second in the West Division, went to 10-6, while the Prairie Stars advanced to the semifinals with a 12-3 record.
Illinois Springfield took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Drury's team of
Augustin Diot and
Sylvain Garin-Michaud won their round with a 6-3 in the number two doubles position. But the Prairie Stars got a win in the number one spot, then Matthew Lapsley and Nick Revin defeated
Isaac Ogilvy and
Lukas Stierling 6-4.
Lukas Stierling picked up Drury's lone singles win, defeating Matthew Lapsley 7-5, 7-5 in the number five position. Illinois Springfield got a 6-4, 6-0 win from Oscar Toro over
Isaac Ogilvy in the number six spot, and Tomas Martinez knocked off the Panthers top singles player,
Nico Hadeler, 6-4, 6-4. The Prairie Stars then clinched with a three-set win from Menno Servaes in the number two singles spot over
Augustin Diot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Illinois Springfield will play Indianapolis in the semifinals on Saturday.
