Cooper Hess (Jr., Lebanon, Mo.) tied for second place at the Arch Cup on Tuesday
Fairview Heights, Ill.— Both Drury men's golf teams opened the 2021-22 season with top-five finishes, and
Cooper Hess tied for second place at the Arch Cup hosted by Missouri-St. Louis at Stonewolf Golf Course in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
UMSL won the single-day, 36-hole tournament by 19 shots shooting 580 to top the 13-team field. McKendree finished second with a 599 and Lindenwood was third at 600. Drury's 'B' team was just one shot back of the Lions, posting a 601, while the Panthers 'A' squad shot 602 to come fifth.
Cooper Hess, a junior from Lebanon, opened the tournament with a four-over-par 76, then caught fire and had the best round of any player in the tournament, shooting a seven-under, 65. He tied for second place in the 73-player field with a three-under-par 141. Another Lebanon product,
Tryn Titus, led Drury's 'A' team shooting an even-par 144 in the tournament to finish tied for sixth overall.
Joel Sylven won medalist honors with an eight-under-par 136.
The Panthers compete again Oct. 4-5 at the Flyer Intercollegiate Tournament at Cog Hill in Bollingbrook, Illinois.
