SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury Panthers improved to 2-1 with a 6-1 victory over Emporia State at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Sunday.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead after doubles with wins from Sylvain Garin-Michaud/Marlon Wilkin and Yaroslav Sharvy/Mark Drozdetskii.
 
The Panthers then won five of six singles matches. Garin-Michaud, playing in Drury's leading singles position, took three sets but defeated Dominik Simunovic 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Yaroslav Sharvy, Marlon Wilken and Louka Queguiner all picked up wins in two sets, while Claudio Vertiz Olivares won in a tie-breaker.
 
Earlier in the day, Drury head coach Jarrod Smith won the 500^th match of his college coaching career combining men's and women's results and the DU women's squad defeated Emporia State 7-0.
 
Emporia State dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
 
Drury returns to the court on Saturday when they host Newman at 7 pm on the indoor courts of the Cooper Tennis Complex.
