SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The seventh-seeded Drury Men's tennis team travels to Detroit, Michigan, to take on the second-seeded Wayne State Warriors of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the first round of the NCAA-II Midwest Regional at the Doris J. and Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility on Friday at 10 am (Central).
Drury received an at-large bid and is one of four GLVC teams in the NCAA-II Tournament, with Indianapolis, Southwest Baptist, and McKendree joining the Panthers.
Drury is 10-6 overall and reached the GLVC semifinals last week. Wayne State is 20-9, went 5-1 in the GLIAC, and defeated Ferris State to claim their conference tournament crown. The Warriors are ranked 11
th in this week's NCAA-II national rankings.
The last time these two teams met, Drury lost to Wayne State 6-1 at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Feb. 26. While the Warriors won by five, all three doubles matches were decided by two, with one match-up going to a tie-breaker.
Louka Queguiner earned Drury's only point in singles.
Sylvain Garin-Michaud, Drury's number one singles player, went three sets before falling to Cedric Drenth.
The winner of this match will take on the winner of Southwest Baptist, seeded third in the region, and Grand Valley State, the sixth seed, on Saturday at 10 am (Central).
The winner of the four-team sub-regional will advance to NCAA-II Tournament's final site in Orlando, Florida, May 11-16.
