SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury women's soccer head coach
Justin Olson announced the addition of three signees for 2023 as the Panthers will add defender Leah McDonald, goalkeeper Taylor Thompson, and midfielder Delanie Dietz.
Leah McDonald (D, Fr., 5-9, Springfield, Mo., Indiana St./Glendale HS)
Leah McDonald will join the Panthers after one year at Indiana State. The Springfield native was a redshirt for the Sycamores last year and will transfer to Drury with four years of eligibility. McDonald was a four-year starter at Glendale HS under head coach Jeff Rodgers and was a Second Team All-State selection in 2021. She was selected to the All-Region team in 2019 and 2021 and was a two-time All-Ozark Conference selection during her high school career. McDonald was part of Glendale's state quarterfinals appearance in 2019. She played club soccer for Sporting Springfield SC and was part of a Missouri State Cup finalist squad in 2019.
Taylor Thompson (G, Soph., 5-8, Springfield, Mo., William Jewell/Glendale HS)
Taylor Thompson will be reunited with her former Glendale HS teammate Leah McDonald as the goalkeeper will transfer to Drury after spending her freshman season at William Jewell. Thompson appeared in eight games and made four starts for the Cardinals last year, going 1-2-1 with 32 saves. At Glendale, she was an All-State selection as a senior in 2022 and an honorable mention All-State honoree in 2021. Thompson helped the Falcons to a Class 3 state runner-up finish in 2022, and she was named the Goalkeeper of the Year in the Ozark Conference and the region as a senior.
Delanie Dietz (MF, Fr., 5-5, Schaumburg, Ill., Schaumburg HS)
Delanie Dietz comes to Drury from Schaumburg HS in Illinois, where she was an all-conference performer and the team's captain. She was on a club team, Elite SC, that won the Under-19 President's Cup in Illinois thanks to her two goals in the championship game, and she was on NPL championship teams in 2019 and 2020.
"We are very excited to be able to add these young ladies to our team," said Olson, who will start his fourth season as head coach at Drury in 2023. "This group will certainly add to a strong 2023 class that will help our program continue to improve and grow for years to come. We are very proud of how this class turned out and really look forward to getting everyone on campus in August to get started!"
Earlier this year, the Panthers
announced nine signings for next year. The signing class will join a team that went 6-3-8 last season.
