MADISON, Ill.— The Drury men's golf opened the 2023-24 season with a seventh place finish in a 13-team field at the Arch Cup, hosted by Missouri-St. Louis at the Gateway Golf Links in Madison, Ill., on Tuesday. Drury's "B" squad tied for 10
th place in the event in the single-day, 36-hole event. The Panthers "A" squad shot a 26-over-par 594, while the "B" team posted a score of 607 (+39) at the par-71, 6,794-yard course.
McKendree won the tournament by one stroke over Missouri S&T and host Missouri-St. Louis. The Bearcats shot a +9, 577 for the win.
Drury's
Hunter Jowers earned a place on the all-tournament as he tied for fifth place. The junior from Jonesboro, Ark., posted a one-over-par 143 in the tournament. Jowers shot an even-par 71 in the first round, then a 72 in his second 18 holes on the day.
Gaige Lewis, in his collegiate debut, led the "B" squad and was Drury's next highest finisher as he tied for ninth. A freshman from Springfield-Kickapoo, was two-over-par with a 144.
Jeppe Thypo from Missouri S&T won the tournament, shooting a -5, 137.
Drury competes again Sept. 18-19 at the 25
th Annual NSU Men's Golf Classic, hosted by Northeastern State at the Muskogee Country Club in Oklahoma.
