ROMEOVILLE, Ill.– The 21
st ranked Drury Panthers won their fourth straight game with a 3-1 win at Lewis on Sunday in Romeoville, Ill.
Drury improved to 10-1-2 and 8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The win lifted the Panthers into first place in the GLVC over idle Maryville. The Saints, who have played one fewer game than Drury, have 22 points in the standings, while the Panthers now have 24. The Flyers, with the loss, fell to 2-8-1 and 2-6 in the GLVC.
Drury got on the board first with a goal from
Mel Schneider, her third of the year, in the 31
st minute. Lewis tied the game, though, four minutes later as Breanna Culver posted her fifth goal of the season to even the game at 1-1.
Elena Perez gave the Panthers the lead just before halftime, scoring her first goal of the season in the 42
nd minute. Drury picked up a two-goal cushion a minute into the second half as
Holland Hawkins, the co-leader in the GLVC in goals scored, notched her ninth of the season with an assist from
Zoe Tolksdorf.
Drury had a 29-2 advantage in shots and had 13 on goal to Lewis' two.
The Panthers return home for their next game as they host Truman State on Friday at 11 am at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
