LEBANON, Ill.– The Drury Panthers pushed McKendree to a fifth set but lost in a back-and-forth final set on Friday night in Lebanon, Ill.
The loss puts Drury's record at 14-12 and 4-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats improved to 10-15 and 5-7 in the league.
McKendree won the opening set 25-13, but the Panthers bounced back to win the second, 25-17. The Bearcats took control in the third set, winning 25-15, but Drury responded again, taking the fourth 25-22 to push the match to the fifth set.
The final set was tied seven times and Drury had match-point with a 14-13 lead, but McKendree won the next three points for the win.
Abby Renshaw led Drury with 14 kills, while
Kayli Duncan and
Mailie Chretien both had 12. Duncan added seven blocks with one solo block and six block assists. Kim Quinet had 21 digs, and Gayle Garnder had 38 assists. Drury setter
Lauren Tyler was out for the Panthers with an injury.
Colleen Preusser and Destiny Gray both had 22 kills for the Bearcats. Amber Williams had 50 assists, and Ashyln Berczynski added 29 digs.
Drury continues the road trip and plays their regular season finale on Saturday at Missouri-St. Louis with the first serve at 3 pm.
