SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury scored three times in the first 15 minutes on their way to a 6-0 win over Southwest Baptist on Sunday at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
The game ended the regular season and gave the Panthers a 13-1-4 record overall and an 11-1-2 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. It is Drury's best regular season winning percentage in program history and extended the unbeaten streak to nine games. Southwest Baptist ended their season 2-12-3 and 2-10-2.
Kourtney Tucker got the Panthers on the board in the seventh minute of the game and Drury took a 2-0 lead two minutes later on
Holland Hawkins' 10
th goal of the year.
Tara Simon added another to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage in the 15
th minute with her third goal of the season.
Ines Villanueva Casal converted on a penalty kick in the 31
st minute and Drury led 4-0 at halftime.
Tucker, a graduate student out of Springfield Central, scored her second goal of the game and sixth of the season early in the second half. The Panthers capped their scoring late as
Jenna Peterson got around the SBU goalkeeper and put in her fourth goal of the year.
Drury outshot Southwest Baptist 21-1 and had 11 shots on goal and held the Bearcats to none on goal.
It was Drury's 12
th shutout of the season.
The Panthers will be the second seed in the GLVC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal round on Nov. 10 at Harrison Stadium. The kickoff against the league's seventh-seeded team will be at noon.
