SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— 20^th ranked Drury out-dueled William Woods 4-2 on Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. The Panthers raised their record to 12-3, while the Owls, ranked 9^th in the NAIA, dropped to 15-5.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead winning two of the three doubles matches. The doubles point came down to the number one doubles match-up. Drury's Sylvain Garin-Michaud and Chuy Gonzalez and Zinovii Nahirniak and Ben Grumley, ranked third nationally in the NAIA, went to a tie-breaker and the Panthers prevailed 7-6 (8-6).
 
Four of the five singles matches the finished went to a third set. Chuy Gonzalez gave Drury a 2-1 lead with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 win over Stepan Mach. Sylvain Garin-Michaud won his match-up 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 over Ben Grumley, and the Panthers clinched the win Marlon Wilken improved to 10-1 this spring with a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) victory of Zinovii Nahirniak. The number one singles match between Drury's Yaroslav Sharyy and the Owls' Vaclav Schneider was stopped in the second set when the the Panthers clinched the win.
 
Drury returns to conference play on Saturday as they travel to Southwest Baptist on Saturday for an 11 am match in Bolivar.
