CARMEL, Ind.— Drury women's golfer
Taryn Overstreet is only two shots back of the lead after the first round at the NCAA-II East Regional championship at the 6,061-yard, par 72 Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana on Monday.
Overstreet shot an even-par 72 and is tied for second place in the 81-player regional field. The senior from Jackson, Missouri, received one of only six at-large bids to the regional championships and is two strokes behind Brooke Herstreit from Saginaw Valley State, who posted a -2, 70 on Monday. Overstreet ended her day tied with Hannah Meloche from Davenport.
Overstreet started on the 10
th hole and was two-over par after nine holes. She birdied the par-5 third hole, then moved to even-par with a birdie on a par-4 two holes later. Overstreet was one under par after sinking her third birdie in six holes on number seven but moved back to even with a bogey on her next to last hole, a 335-yard par-4. She parred her final hole to stay at even through 18 holes.
Overstreet is coming off of a 5
th place finish and an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference performance at the GLVC Championships last weekend and is playing in her first NCAA-II championships. She is the ninth player in program history to receive an individual at-large bid to the NCAA-II Tournament.
Findley leads the team leaderboard at 11-over-par and the Oilers have a one-shot lead over Indianapolis and have an eight-shot advantage over third-place Ashland.
The top six teams from the East Regional along with the top two individuals on non-advancing teams will advance to the NCAA-II Championships May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Club & Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida.
