Overstreet drops to 17th but still in striking distance to advance at NCAA-II East Regional

CARMEL, Ind.— Drury women's golfer Taryn Overstreet fell to 17th place at the NCAA-II East Regional, but the senior is still within striking distance of bid to the national championship after the second round at the 6,061-yard, par-72 Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. Overstreet shot a 10-over-par 82 in Tuesday's second round and is 10-over for the tournament. She will enter Wednesday's third and final round only three shots back of fourth place.
 
Overstreet was even-par in Monday's first round but ended up four-over on the front nine in the second round after a double-bogey on the par-4 ninth hole. She started her back nine with a double-bogey on hole number 10 and, after getting to +10 after 16, parred 17 and 18 to end with a +10, 82 for the day and +10, 154 after 36 holes.
 
Despite shooting 10 shots higher than Monday, Overstreet remains in contention to advance beyond the regional. She will enter the third round only one shot back of 11th place, two strokes behind four players in seventh and three behind a trio in tied for fourth. The top six teams from the East Regional will advance to the national championship in addition to the top two individuals not on those six squads.
 
Erin Mulchaly, from defending national champion Findlay, leads the tournament with a +1, 145, and her sister, Mary Kelly Mulchaly, is two shots back in second. Olivia Stoll from Grand Valley State moved up 23 spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday after shooting a -3, 69, and is in third place with a +4, 148 for the tournament.
 
Findlay leads the regional at 24-over-par, while Indianapolis is three shots behind in second. Ashland (+42), Grand Valley State (+44), Davenport (+54), and Missouri-St. Louis (+56) rounds out the top six going into the final round. Ferris State is two shots back of cracking the top six and is in seventh place.
 
The third and final round tees off on Wednesday morning. The NCAA-II National Championship is May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida.
