LEBANON, Ill.– Drury forward
Holland Hawkins scored two goals in the second half as the Panthers defeated 13
th ranked McKendree on a rain-soaked Leemon Field in Lebanon, Illinois, on Friday night.
The Panthers, who are receiving points for the NCAA-II top 25, stayed unbeaten and raised their record to 6-0-2 and 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats saw their seven-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 7-1 and 3-1 in the GLVC.
Hawkins, a junior from Springfield-Central and transfer from Missouri-Kansas City, got Drury on the board with a goal in the 57
th minute. She scored again five minutes later. to give the Panthers a two-goal cushion. The goals were Hawkins' sixth and seventh of the year and it marked her third multi-goal game of the season.
Bella Hernandez had assists on both goals.
Katy Fitzler recorded her third-straight shutout in goal for Drury to put her record at 6-0-2. Fitzler had four saves, all in the first half, as the Panthers limited McKendree to only two second-half shots and neither one was on-net.
The Bearcats owned a 7-3 shot advantage at halftime, with the game scoreless. Drury turned the game around in the second half, outshooting the Bearcats 11-2 and had seven shots on goal after the intermission.
The Panthers continue their road trip on Sunday and face the only other team in the GLVC off to a 4-0 start, Maryville on Sunday at noon in St. Louis, Missouri.
