Drury Swimming and Diving Completes Day One at SMU Classic

DALLAS — Led by a trio of third-place finishes, Drury men's and women's swimming and diving wrapped up the first day of competition Friday evening at the SMU Classic at Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.

Belhassen Ben miled and Joao Nogueira placed third for the Drury men in the 400 IM and 100 breast, respectively, while Maria Fe Munoz picked up a bronze in the women's 400 IM to highlight the Panthers' opening day in Dallas.

Additionally, Drury competed at the Don Leas Invitational in the first of two consecutive days of diving in Clarion, Pa., highlighted by Anamarie Lewis's third-place finish in the women's 3-meter (203.05).

Men's Highlights
  • The DU men finished fourth in the 400 medley relay, as Ivan Adamchuk, Nogueira, Alvaro Zornoza and Lucas Mineur posting a time of 3:11.18.
  • Drury's 800 free relay squad of Mineur, Matteo Vissotto, Yuri Cabral and Zornoza placed fifth (6:31.87).
  • Carter Austin competed in the men's 1-meter dive, placing fifth with a tally of 203.30.
  • Ben miled locked down a bronze in the 400 IM on the men's side with a swim of 3:53.90.
  • Vissotto placed fifth in the 200 free, finishing in 1:36.82.
  • Mineur was the top finishing Panther on the men's side, recording a 50 free swim of 20.02 for fifth place.
  • Cabral placed fourth (49.10) as DU's top finisher in the men's 100 fly.
  • Adamchuk also logged a fifth-place finish for the men in the 100 back with a time of 47.83.
  • Nogueira picked up a third-place finish in the men's 100 breast with a swim of 53.51.
Women's Highlights
  • Drury placed fourth in the women's 400 medley relay with Nikol Maniko, Gwen Bergum, Rianne Rose and Ashlyn Moore combining for a for a time of 3:46.71. 
  • The Panthers' 800 free relay team finished fourth as well, with Belen Morales, Rose, Munoz and Moore turning in a time of 7:31.58.
  • Munoz picked up a third-place finish in the women's 400 IM, clocking in at 4:22.25 for the Panthers; the senior also finished fifth in the 100 fly (55.37).
  • Morales secured a fifth-place finish in the women's 200 free with a run of 1:48.15.
  • Moore placed fifth for the Panthers in the women's 50 free, clocking a 23.58.
  • Maniko delivered a fifth-place swim of 58.21 in the women's 100 back.
  • Bergum placed fourth for the Panthers in the women's 100 breast, finishing in 1:02.37.
  • Piera Rufino competed in the 3-meter diving competition for Drury, placing fifth with a score of 202.35. 
  • At the Don Leas Invitational, Claire Garrelts (165.00) and Sophia Sechler (145.55) placed fourth and sixth in the 3-meter (six-dive format), respectively; additionally, Garrelts finished seventh in the 1-meter (335.80) and Lewis placed 10th (318.95).

UP NEXT
The second day of the SMU Classic gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday, while the DU divers will conclude their stay in Pennsylvania at the Clarion Classic (11 a.m. CDT).
