Drury falls to defending champion Indianapolis in medal match play semifinals at GLVC Championships

COAL VALLEY, Ill.— After advancing to the medal match play tournament at the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, Drury fell in the semifinals to defending league and national champion Indianapolis 4-1 at the Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois, on Sunday.
 
The Panthers were seeded third after their third place finish in the 54-hole stroke play competition on Friday and Saturday. The top four teams advanced to the medal match play round on Sunday.
 
Drury won the first match-up as senior Isabelle Thrall defeated Macey Brown by seven shots. Thrall posted a five-over par 76 against Brown's +12, 83, to win the number one draw in the five-player competition.
 
Abby Stone from Indianapolis won the number two match-up, defeating Drury's Grace Stafford by four strokes. Stone shot a +5, 76 to Stafford's 80.
 
In the number three match-up, Jade Carter took the GLVC medalist champion to the wire and lost by one shot. Carter fired a +6, 77 to Wallon's 76. The score was tied through 15 holes and Wallon took a shot lead 16th, and hung on to win by one.
 
Indianapolis' Ava Ray defeated Elizabeth Adkisson by eight shots, 88-80 in the number four match-up.
 
Taryn Overstreet fell to Indianapolis' Ellen Caton as Caton shot a +9, 80 to Overstreet's 12-over par 83.
 
Indianapolis advanced to the conference championship round to face top-seeded and 18th ranked Missouri-St. Louis.
 
Drury's third-place finish matches their best finish at the conference championship in the last 11 years and marks the fourth year in a row the Panthers have advanced to the medal match play tournament.
 
The Panthers will await a potential bid to the NCAA-II Regional Tournament, May 5-7, at The Meadows Country Club in Allendale, Michigan. Team and individual bids will be announced on Monday.
