QUINCY, Ill. – Drury wrestling finished sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championship Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 15.
In the quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 Maryville, No. 6 Drury fell 43-3. Mason Knight was the only Panther to record a win, with a 3-0 decision at 149 pounds. Drury took a forfeit at 125 pounds due to injury.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MARYVILLE)
- After the forfeit at 125, Maryville won two straight 3-0 decisions at 133 and 141 pounds.
- Knight earned three points for the Panthers with a 3-0 decision.
- The Panthers suffered a technical fall and a fall at 157 and 165 pounds, putting Maryville ahead 23-3.
- Jeremiah Halter lost by a major decision to No. 14 Cole Ritter at 174 pounds.
- Freshman Owen Gardner fell to No. 15 Jeramiah Larson at 197 pounds.
- Drury suffered two more technical falls at 184 and 285 pounds.
In the fifth-place match, the Panthers fell again, 30-17, to fifth-ranked Quincy. Knight once again led the Panthers, winning by fall in 1:41, upsetting No. 9 Sabian Russel.
Hunter Tennison was dominant in a 16-1 technical fall at 285.
Nate Wishne and Halter each found decision wins at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED (QUINCY)
- Drury forfeited again at 125 pounds.
- Quincy won by major decision at 133 pounds, putting the Hawks ahead 10-0.
- Wishne won a tight 4-2 decision at 141 pounds.
- Knight won by fall at 1:41 pounds, cutting the deficit to 10-9.
- Quincy earned two technical falls at 157 and 165 pounds.
- Halter won a close 2-1 decision at 174 pounds.
- Quincy sealed the match with a 4-0 major decision and a fall at 184 and 197 pounds.
- Tennison closed the day with a technical fall at 285 pounds.
