SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury tennis took both the men's and women's matches against Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon at Cooper Tennis Complex.
MEN'S MATCH – Drury 5, UIS 2
- The Panthers took the doubles point behind wins on the second (Chuy Gonzalez/Tristan Stock) and the third line (Oscar Reis/Marco Romano).
- The top Drury doubles line (Caden Lingenfelser/Lukas Rieber) lost their match 6-3.
- Marco Romano grabbed the second point for Drury in the second singles line. Romano beat Antonio Ayerbe Streubel in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
- Matthieu Gachon won in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) from the top singles line. Gachon is still perfect on the season, 3-0.
- Illinois Springfield stole their only two points from Drury on the third and fourth singles lines.
- Oscar Reis and Gustavo Oliveira closed the match with wins on the fifth and sixth lines.
- Drury is now the winner of three straight matches after dropping their season opener to No. 24 Harding.
WOMEN'S MATCH – Drury 6, UIS 1
- Drury won the doubles point with wins from the first line (Naz Yaver/Antanina Novik) and the second line (Franca Piaggi/Leana Chanove).
- Leana Chanove took the first singles line 6-2 and 6-1. Chanove has not lost a set since her first one of the season (Feb. 6 against Harding).
- Naz Yaver (6-1, 6-4) and Franca Piaggi (6-1, 6-3) also won in two sets from the third and fourth lines.
- Antanina Novik had to go three sets after dropping the first one 1-6, but bounced back with 6-2 and 6-4 wins.
- Ana Luisa Sathler Rosa won the Panthers' sixth point of the afternoon from the fifth line.
- The lone Prairie Star point came from the sixth singles line.
- The Panthers are now 3-0. It is the first time since the 2024 season that Drury has started 3-0.
