SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's and women's tennis kicked off the 2026 campaign on Friday evening against Harding in Springfield. The women's team picked up the 4-1 win as the men's team fell to No. 24 Harding, 4-1.
MEN'S MATCH (L, 1-4)
- Harding opened the match by sweeping the doubles lines and taking the doubles point to get an early 1-0 lead.
- Matthieu Gachon was the lone Panther to win a point against Harding. Gachon swept Cian Mikkelsen on the second line.
- Lukas Rieber was the only other Drury player to win a set. Rieber won the first set on the fifth line 6-4 and was tied 3-3 in the second set before the match was called, making his result undecided.
- The Bison won singles on the first, third, and fourth lines.
WOMEN'S MATCH (W, 5-1)
- Drury took the doubles point off wins from the second and third line. Franca Piaggi and Leana Chanove combined on the second line for a 6-2 win. Ana Luisa Sathler Rosa and Ina Bechle also picked up a 6-2 win on the third doubles match.
- The top line of Naz Yaver and Antanina Novik fell 7-6 in a match that took an hour.
- After dropping the first set, Leana Chanove fought back to win the second and third sets on the first singles line for her 40th career singles win, in a match that took two and a half hours.
- Antanina Novik (second line), Naz Yaver (third line), and Franca Piaggi (fifth line) each swept their singles match.
- Brooke Coffman was the lone Harding player to win their singles match in the fourth spot.
- Ana Luisa Sather Rosa had a lead on the sixth line, one set to zero, before the match was called early.

Both teams return to Cooper Tennis Complex on Sunday against Northeastern State with a first serve at noon.
