SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's and women's tennis won their sixth straight matches on Friday afternoon against McKendree to improve to 6-1 (men) and 6-0 (women).
MEN'S MATCH – Drury 6, McKendree 1
- Drury took the double's point behind wins on the first (Chuy Gonzale/Tristan Stock) and third lines (Oscar Reis/Marco Romano).
- Matthieu Gachon extended the Drury lead with a straight set sweep on the second line (6-2, 6-2).
- McKendree scored their lone point on the third line.
- Tristan Stock (fourth) and Lukas Rieber (fifth) would each win to clinch the Panthers' victory.
- Chuy Gonzalez (first) would be forced into a tiebreaker third set where he and Stepan Mach went for 30 points until Gonzalez pulled the win out 16-14.
- Oscar Reis (sixth) also played in a tiebreaking set where he won 10-6.
WOMEN'S MATCH – No. 43 Drury 6, McKendree 1
- The Panthers won the doubles point within a half hour of starting, with Franca Piaggi and Leana Chanove (second) winning 6-0 and Naz Yaver and Antanina Novik (first) winning 6-4.
- Naz Yaver (third) won the Panthers' second point 7-5 and 6-0.
- Novik was taken to three sets but won.
- The nation's 30th-ranked singles player, Leana Chanove, won in three sets. It was her first singles set she had lost since the season opener against Harding.
- Ana Luisa Sathler Rosa swept the sixth singles line.
- Franca Piaggi (fifth) won in a 10-6 tiebreaking third set.
- McKendree won their only point on the fourth line.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to the court on March 11, a part of their spring break trip to Louisiana. They will take on Xavier at noon.
