No. 49 Panthers Top Rockhurst, Split Matches with Hawks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury tennis honored four seniors: Leana Chanove, Chuy Gonzalez, Oscar Reis, and Jad Rhissassi, prior to their matches against Rockhurst, with the top spot in the GLVC West Division on the line. The men's team won 4-2 as the women's team lost 6-1.
 
MEN'S MATCH – No. 49 Drury 4, Rockhurst 2
  • Rockhurst took an early lead after winning the first and third doubles lines. Oscar Reis and Marco Romano won the second line 6-2. The win for Reis and Romano is their third straight as a duo.
  • Marco Romano (third line) gave Drury their first point of the afternoon with a win in straight sets.
  • After a long three-set match, Matthieu Gachon took the lead for Drury on the second line (6-3, 3-6, 7-6).
  • Oscar Reis (sixth line) added the third Panther point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
  • Rockhurst scored its second point on the fourth line in straight sets, ending Tristan Stock's nine-match winning streak.
  • Chuy Gonzalez clinched the match for Drury with a three-set victory over Alex Tikhonov. Gonzalez has now won six straight matches.
  • The Panthers have now won three straight matches.
  • With two matches left in the regular season, the Panthers are the only undefeated team in the GLVC West Division.
 
WOMEN'S MATCH – Rockhurst 6, Drury 1
  • Rockhurst swept the doubles line to take an early one-point advantage.
  • The Hawks won lines one through three and six in singles in straight sets.
  • Franca Piaggi won the fifth line 6-4 and 6-2 for Drury's lone point.
  • Ina Bechle took Marina Magai to a decisive third set but dropped the third set 10-8.
  • Drury has now dropped four straight matches to Rockhurst, three of those in Springfield.
 
UP NEXT
Drury has their final 2026 home match of the season on Saturday (April 18) against William Jewell, first serve is set for 1 pm.
