Drury Baseball Earns Split vs. 16th Ranked Grand Valley State Saturday

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Drury baseball Panthers earned a split vs. No. 16 Grand Valley State posting a 10-1 victory in the nightcap after falling 3-0 in the opener at Pat Thomas Stadium on Saturday.

Drury is now 3-4 on the season and Grand Valley State goes to 5-3.  Today's victories were also key Regional games for both teams.

In the nightcap Drury scored three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the second.  Dallas Williams took advantage of a Grand Valley State error in the second inning to get the Panthers on the board.  An RBI single by Mike Rafter plated Ryan Colombo to make it 2-0 Drury and Ryan Wadkins scored on a passed ball to make it a 3-0 Panther lead after two innings.

An RBI sacrifice fly by Tyler Arthur in the bottom of the third brought home Bobby Lang and made it 4-0.  Connor Glick of Grand Valley State went yard in the top of the fourth to get the Lakers on the board.

Drury erupted for five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to push their lead to 9-1.  Williams doubled to score Dylan Bradshaw and Luke Tewes to open the Panther scoring.  A John Goodrich RBI fielders choice brought in Lang to make it 7-1.   An RBI groundout by Colombo and an RBI single by Wadkins capped off the Panther scoring in the fifth. 

A sacrifice fly by Arthur in the sixth scored Tewes to seal the deal for the Panthers 10-1 win.

Tewes finished with two hits, two runs and Wadkins had two hits with an RBI to pace the Panthers who finished with seven hits.  Grand Valley finished with five hits.

Luke Burnidge (2-1) earned the win with six strikeouts and allowed five hits in six innings with Evan Nietfeldt (0-1) getting the loss for the Lakers and allowing six hits in 4.2 innings.

In the opener the Lakers got on the board first with three runs on an RBI double and an RBI single in the bottom of the first.  Winning pitcher Aaron Jensen (1-0) struckout eight while allowing five Drury hits to help the Lakers hold that lead for the remainder of the contest.  Drury had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.

Drury had five hits in the contest with Arthur, Lang, Rafter and Tewes all having singles.  Williams had a double in the seventh inning.  Kevin Zak and Jamie Potts led the Lakers with two hits each.

Austin Faulconer (1-1) struckout nine while allowing seven hits in the losing effort.  

The Drury Baseball Panthers will continue action in Florida on Monday when they face ninth ranked Florida Tech in Melbourne at 10 a.m.
