Maxi Hepp finishes 8th at ITA national championship

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Drury University men's tennis player Maxi Hepp finished eighth at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Oracle Cup, the NCAA-II individual national championship tournament in Surprise, Arizona this weekend.

Hepp, a senior from Auenwald, Germany, lost his seventh place match on Saturday to Matej Selecky from the New York Institute of Technology, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Hepp advanced to the national championship after winning the ITA Midwest Regional tournament in Indianapolis last month defeating a field of 64 players.

The ITA fall event allows for individuals and doubles teams compete for national championships. The spring season shifts to team tennis play. Hepp was the 2016 GLVC Player of the Year and helped the Panthers to a 13-9 record, a 5-0 mark in the GLVC and was key in getting Drury to the NCAA-II Midwest Regional championship match last season.

Drury opens the spring season on February 3rd against Washburn at the Cooper Sports Complex.
