SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Drury finished off action in Texas in the right direction as the No. 14 Panthers defeated Tarleton State 7-2 here on Friday.
Drury improved to 13-1 for the year with the victory, while the TexAnns fell to 7-7.
Drury opened the match by winning two of three doubles. The tandem of 8
th-ranked
Julia Schepp and
Larissa Karl improved to 11-2 this season with an 8-4 win in the No. 1 match, while
Arianna Demos and
JiaQing Mo (8-5) battled for win at No. 3. Erika Johnston and Ashleigh Elward were able to get Tarleton a match point with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 slot.
Drury now has an overall doubles record this season of 36-6.
In singles, Johnston had her hands full in the No. 1 match, and could not overcome 44
th-ranked Karl, who won her match 6-3, 6-0.
Lara Muller (6-2, 6-2) handled the No. 2 match, while
Chung-Yen Huang put together a dominant 6-1, 6-2 sweep to round out the top half of the Drury lineup.
Karl and Muller improved their records to 8-4 in singles play this season.
Mo, who improved to 10-2 in singles play with her win, took care of the No. 5 match with a 6-2, 6-4 win, while Schepp (6-1,6-1) won at No. 6 to round out Drury's victories. TSU claimed a 6-4, 4-6(11-9) win at No. 4 for their second point of the match.
Drury will open GLVC play vs. Rockhurst in Kansas City on March 31st at 2 p.m. Drury is second in the Midwest Regional rankings and Rockhurst is eighth.
