KANSAS CITY – The Drury men's tennis team put together a strong outing, with a 6-3 victory over Rockhurst to open Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday.
The No. 17 ranked Panthers improved to 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in GLVC play. The Hawks fall to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Friday's match began with the Panthers claiming a 2-1 advantage in doubles play, as 11-ranked
Maximilian Hepp and
Sebastien Amato picked up a 9-8(7-3) win at No. 1, before
Sacha Mourier and
Nico Sigloch followed with an 8-6 loss vs. Daniel Chmielewski and Decho Valev at No. 2.
In the final position,
Nico Hadeler and
Leonardo Cerri gave the Panthers strong momentum heading into singles action, after posting a 9-7 victory over their opponent at No. 3.
Hepp and Mourier blew out their opponents in singles action, with 15
th-ranked Hepp winning 6-1, 6-3, and Mourier posting a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Hadeler won a battle at No. 3 by a 6-3, 7-6(7-4) margin, and Sigloch took No. 4 by a 7-6(7-5)6-2 final.
Rockhurst scored match points with wins at No. 2 and No. 6, with scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-0.
Drury's next scheduled matchup will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m., when the Panthers square off against William Jewell in GLVC play at the Plaza Tennis Center.
