SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Jared Rennick won both of his matches on Saturday as Drury competed in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference duals at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
 
Drury lost to 23^rd ranked Maryville 36-12 and to sixth-ranked McKendree 32-9 in their first conference competition of the season.
 
Rennick, competing at 197 pounds, went 2-0 on the day. The sophomore from Washington, Missouri defeated Dustin Politte from Maryville 2-0 and then won against Luke Diener from McKendree 8-3.
 
Grant Taylor also picked up a win for Drury in the Maryville match winning a 10-5 decision over Nick McGhee.
 
The Panthers won three matches against McKendree. In addition to Rennick's win, Drury got a victory from 174-pounder Jacob Brune, who came through with a two-point takedown in the closing seconds against Dan Fillipek for a 3-2 win. Heavyweight Ben Melton earned 6-1 tie-breaker win over Christian Boyles to finish the match.
 
"McKendree is one of the best teams in the country, they've developed a lot of guys in their program, and that's a veteran team," said Drury head coach James Reynolds. "We took a couple from them and really performed well in a couple of weights."
 
Drury is 1-6 in duals and 0-2 in the GLVC. Maryville improved 4-3 and 1-0 in the league while McKendree improved to 9-4 and 2-0 in the conference.  
 
The Panthers return to action on Jan. 27 with GLVC duals at Bellarmine. Drury takes on Indianapolis at 11 a.m. and Bellarmine at 1 p.m. in Louisville, Kentucky.
