SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Washington University (Mo.), ranked ninth in the NCAA-III rankings, defeated Drury, ranked ninth in NCAA-II, 6-3 on Sunday at Cooper Tennis Complex.
Drury falls to 10-3 for the year while Washington improved to 8-6.
The Panthers earned two of their three victories at doubles, with the Panthers taking wins at the top of the lineup 9-8 and at the No. 3 position 8-6. The Bears took doubles No. 2 by a score of 8-6.
Washington took five of the six singles matches, earning three of those in three sets. Lukas Stierling posted the Panthers lone win 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over J.J. Kroot.
Drury will open GLVC play at Maryville on Friday, March 30 with match time in St. Louis set for 2 p.m.
